Parodies’ Paradise: 2015 “Hello”

Adele’s lead single from her third studio album became her second UK number-one single, following… the largest opening week sales in three years… debuted at the top of the BillboardHot 100 in the US, reigning for 10 consecutive weeks… fourth number-one on the chart… the first song to sell over a million digital copies in a week… 2015’s 7th best-selling single… the music video broke the Vevo Record by achieving over 27.7 million views within a 24-hour span… also broke the record for shortest time to attain 100 million Vevo views, as well as shortest time to reach one billion YouTube views (88 days)… won three Grammy Awards: Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Pop Solo Performance.

Adele-able parodies tend to lift the level of high humor due to her… saintliness?

Alyssa Smith plays her collegiate parody into a “Hello It’s Christmas.” But it takes forever and the lip synching is novocained.

Nicole Wilson invites you to her Xmas party with her “‘Hello’ Adele Parody.” That’s some trouble for an e-vite.

Kelsey Lynn Ellis redeems the echoey vocalizations with “Hello from the North Pole” in which Santa searches for the faithful.

Tim Wheeler takes it up a pearly gate with “Hello, Christmas Eve” pitching services for his church. Wait. this is advertising!

Kelli Smith goes Jesus with Josh Christopher’s “Hello.” Christ’s birth is a wake up call, y’all. Hello!

Newlife fights the war against Christmas with “Hello (It’s Christmas Time).” I’m not sure which haters don’t want him to don his gay apparel, but he makes a case for ostentatious decorating. Great video.

Rakhee Noazaria spends a whole minute trying to get the ‘rents to answer the door in her “Hello (Christmas Edition).” Hehe.

Joel Kopischke, a god among parodists, has Kelli Cramer sing about a disappointed list maker in “‘Hello’ Adele Christmas Parody.” Kelli sells it, and the humor is largely blown out of the water by her vocals.

Phat Daddies make the obvious play with “Ho Ho” casting Santa as the emo whiner we hate to see. Nice parody.

The same idea in “Ho Ho” by The White Boys takes its own sweet time, but comes off funnier.

Kim Novak brings it down the chimney with her “Ho Ho.” It’s not all cookie jokes, but Santa takes it on the belly here.

Parodies’ Paradise: 2015 “Watch Me”

The debut single by the American rapper Silentó peaked at #3 on the Billboard Hot 100, where it has spent 6 non-consecutive weeks… the viral clip on YouTube has over a billion views… reached over 2 million in sales by November 2015… received a nomination for Song of the Summer at the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards and another nomination for R&B/Hip-Hop Song at the Teen Choice Awards... Australian site Irkitated named it one of the absolute ‘worst songs.’

Deva Delporto goes mad mom on the hit with “Whip Nae Nae Christmas Parody.”

Parodies’ Paradise: 2015 “679”

The title springs from Fetty Wap’s attempt to access his birthday (6/7/1991) as a PIN… the second single by from his self-titled debut album… peaked at number 4 on the US Billboard Hot 100, becoming his second highest-charting single.

This rant goes collegial with angrypicnic’s dada recitation “679 (Christmas Parody).” Pranks for that.

Parodies’ Paradise: 2014 “All About That Bass”

Meghan Trainor’s hit off her debut album became a strong candidate for “Song of the Summer”… in a negative review, Time named “All About That Bass” as the fifth worst song of the year… with 16 weeks in total it holds the record for total most weeks in number one at the Slovenian official singles charts SloTop50… received Grammy Award nominations for Record of the Year and Song of the Year… spent eight weeks atop the US Billboard Hot 100… topped the charts in 20 other countries, including Canada, New Zealand, Switzerland and the United Kingdom… sold 11 million units worldwide… the third best-selling song of 2014 and one of the best-selling singles of all time.

Girls of Suburbia honor Santa’s size in their parody of no clever name.

Streator High School love/hate Santa’s girth with “All About that Waist.” Kids today!

Jennifer Rose gets a bit more lascivious with the chubby chasing in “I Love My Santa Claus,” shimmying and gyrating like this is a ‘Santa Baby’ parody. (Hang on, a plate of burger and fries for Santa?!)

LindZ Owen plays sultry to Santa as well to get “On the Nice List.” Nice hair brush vocals.

shayshaymb approaches Santa from another side with “All About that Beard.” Is that all that saint is to you?

Richard Peachey dips shallowly for “All About that Base” honoring the Christmas tree stand. Mmmm–maybe.

Nisah (for Mig Me) changes the subject with “All About the Feast.” You know it’s a feast when there’s pasta, and rice, and fries.

curveball111 throws the food topic into another court with “I Wanna Stuff My Face” full of latkes. Oi, oil.

Mission Church Ventura make the best of their talent pool with their secular crit and religious twist: “All About that Baby.”

Faith Promise Church likes presents and trees as much as the baby king with “All About that Bass – Christmas Remix.” Bass here is the low sound of that pop guitar playing (i guess).

Allegra DelRossi (and family) feature Jesus in “All About that Babe,” a Christmas song that piggybacks on religion.

Vapid blond devotees shake it for “All About the Christ” starring Heather Krol. That million mile stare creeps the bajeepers outta me, though.

Notching the cross up a bit AJ Sheffield go high with “All About the Christ” apparently recorded on a flip phone, but skitted out by frolicsome teen believers. (Why does Mary have a knitted beard?)

Aubrey Howell gets the idea of parody with “All About that List.” I like it because it’s heartfelt fun.

Parodies’ Paradise: 2014 “Blank Space”

Some songs, and artists, demand the taking down of the peg or two–or twelve. Taylor Swift’s hit reached number one on the US Billboard Hot 100… made her the first woman in the Hot 100’s 56-year history to succeed herself at the top spot… topped charts in Canada, South Africa and Australia… charted in the top 10 in numerous countries, such as Austria, Czech Republic, Germany, New Zealand, Spain, and the United Kingdom… received nominations for the 58th Grammy Awards for Record of the Year, Song of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance.

This has resulted in uncountable riffs, many of which are yultidinous.

Jason Bojangals has a “‘Blank Space’ ‘Home Alone’ Parody” not to be missed. Xmas in setting only.

More family drama from the subcontinentals at AnitaBeMe: “‘Blank Space’ Christmas Parody.” Mom and Dad have a point.

Dad Matt Pelt worries about the family prank war influencing the “Naughty List.” With good reason.

Basic and Bro Productions features Kim Novak singing about what to bring her in your”Dang Sleigh.” It turns out she is grabby AND greedy.

Georgette Brotherson and Joshua Hinsonn of Free Beer Productions go amateur with “Bad Gift.” Selfish millennials.

Kristopher London is a bit needy with his “‘Blank Space’ Christmas Parody.” And unnecessarily BLUE.

To make up Singing Music People of Fair Oaks Church have a nicely done “Nice List.”

Tyson & Hayley consider the blank space in their living room to fill with a Christmas tree in their “‘Blank Space’ Parody.” Timber.

At least “Blank Cups” from Back Row Videos is about something. Sadly that something is the Starbucks red Christmas cup controversy from way back. Gladly it’s from the POV of the bored barista. Good one.

Amanzio Brady injects a tiny hip hop into “‘Blank Space’ (Christmas Parody).” Starting to sound like all the others.

Is that 12 yet? No? Gotta wrap this up…

Charles Harke of That Guy Productions tells the tale of Santa considering one Davy and his worthiness as to his extensive list. “‘Blank Space’ Parody (Christmas Edition)” is an emotional roller coaster.

Parodies’ Paradise: 2014 “Bang Bang”

Jessie J, Ariana Grande, and Nicki Minaj’s number was the lead single from Jessie J’s third studio album Sweet Talker… by the next year it was certified 5× platinum by the RIAA… as of 2016, the song has sold 3.2 million copies in the US… debuted at number one in the United Kingdom… reached the top ten in fourteen countries including Canada, Australia, Ireland, New Zealand and the United States… nominated for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance at the 57th Grammy Award… won Favorite Song of the Year at the 2015 Kids’ Choice Awards.

Katie Wilson (w/Chrissa Sparkles and Michelle Glavan) go big skit production with “Ugly Christmas Sweater.” Wow.

Parodies’ Paradise: 2013 “Get Lucky”

This lead single from Daft Punk’s fourth studio album, Random Access Memories was released as a digital download on 19 April 2013… spawned numerous cover versions and parodies… reached the top ten in the music charts of over 32 countries… has sold more than 9.3 million copies, making it one of the best-selling songs of all time… won awards for Record of the Year and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance at the 56th Annual Grammy Awards

Duncan G puts some parodies on line each year, you all could follow his example folks. Then we’d have more than this bit “Stuffin’ Stockings.” Boys just wanna have musical fun.

Here comes Mr. Tim with more production values in “Santa’s up All Night.” Hohoho off!

Parodies’ Paradise: 2013 “Fancy”

Our favorite Australian rapper’s debut studio album dropped this hit as the fourth single from it… Iggy Azalea described this as electro-hop song… cowritten and performed with featuring British singer Charli XCX… leaked under the title “Leave It” in December… reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100… both Azalea’s and XCX’s first number-one on that chart… held the spot for seven consecutive weeks… also topped the charts in Canada and New Zealand… reached the top ten in several countries such as Australia and the United Kingdom… named Billboard’s Song of the Summer… the most-streamed song on Spotify and most-watched music video on Vevo for the year… won the Top Rap Song category at the 2015 Billboard Music Awards… nominated for Record of the Year and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance at the 57th Grammy Awards… one of the best-selling singles worldwide, with combined sales and track-equivalent streams of 9.1 million units according to IFPI.

K J Julian classes up his “‘Fancy’ Christmas Parody” from the Chapel Student Ministry Talent Show. It’s about who’s more Christmas. Got me beat. I mean present-grubbing, Santa name-dropping, Nativity twerking….

Parodies’ Paradise: 2013 “Thrift Shop”

Macklemore’s eighth career single and the fourth single from their debut studio album, The Heist (2012) was a sleeper hit… peaked at number one on the Billboard Hot 100… sold over 7 million copies in the US alone… reached number one in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Canada, France, Denmark, Netherlands, Australia and New Zealand… the video has garnered more than 1.1 billion views on YouTube… in 2014, the single won two Grammy Awards for Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Song.

Such ironic fame for poverty demands demeaning from Meet the Bullens with “Thrift Shop Christmas Parody.” And also from, erm, Tamworth rapper Cracklemore (John Sutherland) in “Christmas (Thrift Shop Parody).”

Parodies’ Paradise: 2013 “Year Zero”

Swedish metal band Ghost provided fans with a free streaming of ‘Year Zero’ if they promoted the band on Facebook, by endorsing its frontman to be elected the next Pope of the Catholic Church. The 10″ vinyl version of the single includes the B-side ‘Orez Raey,’ which as the title suggests is the A-side played backwards.

This satanic song subs Santa for Satan with “Hail Santa” by Wagoner Bros.
