Year-round Yuletide oddities
Now reindeer in general are fine symbols of Christmastime, hailing from the Arctic so it’s always like winter when they’re near. Majestic but adorable. Neutral enough to be portrayed in any mood, in fact. Let’s have fun–in song–with this Xmas staple.

Hal Willis admits the old reindeer are getting too old, so here comes Rosebud, Flasher, Moonglow, Twinkletoes, Jodhpur, Stomper, Starbrite, Whizbang, and Herman. “Santa’s Reindeer Clones” is country cornpone kidsong.
The Benefit start out traditionally, but then… “The Reindeer Song” requires some stamina to make it through. Those who share this sense of humor will not tire of the endless add ons in “Reprise.” My favorite? Crouton!

Actual country strumming from Bill and ‘Shakey,’ unfolds the tale of “Woodolph (The Petrified Red-Nosed Reindeer).” He seems noble, but i’m suspecting this might just be a table lamp.
Santa’s rigorous system of Big Brother may have been helped by a reindeer. No, not just any of the reindeer. “Walker, Texas Reindeer” has his eye of justice on you. Don’t. Be. Naughty. Axis of Awesome’s cowboy country music intro is, in a word, awesome.
Not quite at the bottom of taste, The Ninja Fam put to music the story of the flatulent force behind Santa’s need for speed. “Tootles the Tooting Reindeer” might be an animated Xmas special somewhere. Those who need to can find it, I’m sure. Otherwise, enjoy this tame pop music kidsong.
Adrian Hill has a channel of Eric the Turkey silliness. His Christmas entry “Eric the Turkey and the Nervous Reindeer” involves the shy fella, Toby, who can’t fly until he loves himself. Also, he appears to be an Irish Setter. The song, moreover, is synth silliness. Be a shooting star, Toby!
Starting up like a coked-up ‘Grandma got Run Over’ spoof, “Thomas Got Mistaken for a Reindeer” takes the Christmas Cards down a long and winding oompah road of nonsense. Might i suggest Witsec?
When The Hot Buttered Elves take on an icon, watch out. “Steve the Reindeer” is a punk-pop-cowboy rock mashup about a carousing party animal. Whew.
Homophobic country comedy’s a cottage industry. So there’s even a cover of Cledus T. Judd’s “Stephon the Alternative Lifestyle Reindeer” by Mac McAnally. The ironic indignation of allowing for the gay is matched only by the extent to which this musical production makes an actual song.
